He studied in his native Turin with Maestro Beltramo and Anna Maria Nobile. He made his stage debut in Turin in 1944, and sang in many provincial Italian theaters during the post was period, and in 1946 he was the tenor soloist in the world premiere in Rome of Malipiero’s cantata, “Vergilii Aeneis”. Hs La Scala debut in 1953 as Dimitri in “Boris Godunov”. He participated in many world premieres, First Priest in Dallapiccola’s “Il prigioniero”, Romeo in Malipiero’s “Mondi celesti e infernali”, Achille in Pizzetti’s “Ifigenia”, the Herald in his “Assasino nella Catedrale”, and Sentinel in his “Cagliostro”, Mario in Mario Peragallo’s “La gita in campagna”, Abele in Felice Lattuada’s “Caino”,Costruttore in Giacomo Manzoni’s “Atomtod”, and Lukà in Flavio Testi’s “L’albergo dei poveri”. His repertoire included Elézer in “Mosè in Egitto”,
Edgardo, Percy in “Anna Bolena”, the Duke, Alfredo, Riccardo, Gabriele Adorno, Uldino in “Attila”, Radames. Otello, Rodolfo, Cavaradossi, Des Grieux, and Rinuccio.
