Remembering LOTTE LEHMANN (1888 – 1976) on her birthday !
After studying in Berlin with Mathilde Mallinger, she made her debut at the Hamburg Opera in 1910 as a page in “Lohengrin.” In 1914, she gave her debut as Eva in Die at the Vienna Court Opera. 1916 saw her singing the Composer in Ariadne in Vienna signaling her long association with Richard Strauss. Sophie in London and Hamburg Oktavian too. Ariadne and the Dyer’s Wife. In 1924 she first sang her signature role, the Marschallin. Leonore, Elizabeth, Elsa Eva, and above all, Sieglinde. Lieder interpretations among the finest ever recorded. Her concert career continued until 1951, when she became one of the most celebrated teachers of the 20th century.
