Remembering GIGLIOLA FRAZZONI (1923 – 2016) on her birthday !
Gigliola Frazzoni (1923 – 2016). She studied with Marchesi and Secchiaroli in Bologna. She made her debut singing Samaritana in “Francesca da Rimini” in Pesaro in 1947 before undertaking Mimi at the Teatro Comunale the next year.in her native Bologna. She sang on the opera stages of Rome , Turin, Venice, Palermo and Parma. Her La Scala debut was as Maddalena in 1955. In 1957 she was the first Mother Marie in Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmelites”. That and her live recorded performance as Minnie in “La Fanciulla del West” ensured her being remembered. Her repertoire included Aida, Butterfly, Tosca, Nedda, and Carmen. She closed out her career in 1979 at the Arena di Verona as Santuzza.
