MARION WEED, Soprano, * 1870 Rochester (New York), † 23 June 1947 New York;

She appeared in her first American home as a church singer in appearance, but then turned into an intense study singing. It was in Berlin’s famous student Lilli Lehmann and began her stage career in 1896 at the Opera House of Cologne, where she was employed for two years. By 1896, she performed at the Festival of Bayreuth and sang Freia in “Das Rheingold.” In 1898 she moved to the Municipal Theatre (Opera House) from Hamburg, where it was until 1903 as an interpreter of the great Wagnerian roles their voting compartment very successful. She sang here the Senta in “The Flying Dutchman,” the Elisabeth in “Tannhauser”, the Brünnhilde in “Valkyrie”, but also the Aida, Leonore in “Fidelio” and Leonora in “Il Trovatore.” In 1899 she starred in the Hamburg premiere of “Circe” of August Bungert. In 1903 she came to the Metropolitan Opera in New York City (first role: Brünnhilde in “Valkyrie”), where she sang in the following years until 1908 Kundry in “Parsifal”, Isolde in “Tristan und Isolde” and Venus in “Tannhauser “the mother in” Hansel and Gretel “and Orlowsky in the” bat “, total (in their New York home) in five seasons, 17 games in 70 performances. In 1910 she toured again at the Hamburg Opera as Isolde, and she was listening to at that time also at the Court Theatre of Hanover. Upon completion of her stage career, she devoted herself to vocal pedagogy and worked many years at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. Most recently, she lived in New York.

Records her voice does not seem to be present.
